Discover the new volcano

Solidified lava flows, colorful patterns, strange landscapes... this and much more emerged from the latest volcanic eruption on La Palma, that of the Tajogaite Volcano. With special permission and accompanied by one of our trained and passionate guides, we entered the exclusion zone of the "Llano del Jable" in the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park, always walking within the limits of the trail, thus helping to preserve a unique landscape. Together we will see the youngest land in Spain, created by the volcanic eruption of La Palma in 2021, and admire the power of nature.

Our tour begins at the oldest historically documented volcano on the island and takes us through the Llano del Jable area with its gentle ups and downs. The landscape is marked by thick layers of ash. The green of the Canary Island pines and the often blue sky create great color contrasts on the black plain. After a few minutes of walking, we will catch our first glimpse of the eastern side of the sulfur-covered cone. The guide, accompanied by powerful images, will transport you back to the moment of the eruption, telling you about his own experiences, the far-reaching effects of the volcanic eruption on the island, and the current situation. Together we will marvel at the energy of the new volcano in Cumbre Vieja and the mystical landscape that was created here in less than three months.

From a viewpoint located just 40 meters away from the craters (only volcanologists can get closer), we will observe the still-smoking remains of the cone, which are covered with mineral deposits in a wide variety of colors, and you will be able to take incredible photographs without interfering with the landscape. From the craters, we will return via the old Cabeza de Vaca forest track, which offers spectacular views of the green Aridane Valley and the Caldera de Taburiente. The return route has two steep sections that can be exhausting in the summer sun.

Caldera de Taburiente

Together we will walk through one of the largest erosion craters in the world: the Caldera de Taburiente, declared a national park in 1954. A huge cirque with a diameter of approximately 8 km and a depth of almost 2,000 m, resembling a caldera, where the passage of time and several eruptions, landslides, and the erosive action of water have shaped a landscape that is as rugged as few others. A spectacular hiking route (14 km; 6.5 hours; medium-high difficulty) from Los Brecitos—at an altitude of 1,030 m—descending through a cozy pine forest to the camping area on the banks of the Taburiente River. Through the Barranco de las Angustias, we follow in the footsteps of King Tanausú. The force of nature is impressive. We pass by the famous Cascada de Colores (Waterfall of Colors) and leave La Caldera through the deepest section of the ravine, thus concluding this spectacular hike through one of the most fascinating landscapes in the world.

We start the excursion in a local taxi. After a half-hour drive, we begin walking at the Los Brecitos viewpoint and descend along a gently sloping path with lush vegetation to the camping area next to the Taburiente River, the only permanent river in the Canary Islands. We will follow in the footsteps of Mencey Tanausú, the last king of the aboriginal people of La Palma who was taken prisoner by the conquistadors, and descend through the deepest ravine in the National Park, not suitable for people who suffer from vertigo, to the famous Cascada de Colores (Waterfall of Colors), which awaits us in the riverbed with the possibility of cooling off in it.

The route is for people who are used to walking, with a 200-meter elevation gain and a 900-meter elevation loss.

An immersive experience in the world of Canary Island bananas.

In Puerto Naos, in the heart of the La Palma World Biosphere Reserve, we invite you to enjoy an authentic ecotourism experience centered around the Canary Island banana, where the land, the people, and knowledge come together.

Walking along the trails of Ecofinca PlatanoLógico, you will discover a mosaic of biodiversity: banana trees, fruit trees, medicinal plants, and vegetable gardens that interact with the volcanic landscape and the ocean. Here, everything is grown with respect: without chemicals, using our own compost, conserving water, and promoting soil life. The guide, Fran, shares with passion and warmth an inspiring vision of agroecology as a way of life, uniting tradition and the future.

You will discover the secrets of a food that we eat quite often. Where it came from, how it reproduces, what influences its proper growth, how it is handled, and the work that goes into each of the bananas of the Canary Islands, from the beginning of their life until they become part of your table and, therefore, your body.

This experience is designed for conscious travelers, for ecotourists who seek to connect with the local and the authentic, and to understand how sustainability is built from the ground up. Each visitor participates, observes, touches, asks questions, and learns: not as a spectator, but as part of a living system.

La Palma, with its network of protected natural areas, is an example of the balance between conservation and rural development. In this context, our farm acts as a laboratory for good ecological practices, a space for learning and enjoyment where every step reinforces the value of what is local, sustainable, and regenerative.

At the end of the visit, you will take away more than just an image or a tasting: you will feel that you have been part of a place that cares for its identity, its people, and its environment. An experience that leaves its mark, not because of what is consumed, but because of what is understood.

Smell, feel, learn, taste.

Culinary coast

A wonderful walk through La Palma's most lush cultural landscape with stunning views of the coast and the ocean. Two highlights of this route through the northeast of the island are the picnic at a breathtaking viewpoint over the awe-inspiring La Galga ravine and a visit to the beautiful natural beach of Playa Nogales.

The area through which the walk takes us was known as the "Granary of La Palma." Today, cereals are no longer grown there, but there is a remarkable variety of herbs and fruits that fill with color the approximately 3 hours that this 7-kilometer, medium-difficulty hike takes.
Most of the trail is rocky but well-surfaced, constantly going up and down through several small gorges. The first thing that stands out is the viewpoint over the deep La Galga ravine. Here we sit down to enjoy a picnic with local products (included) and let our gaze wander. Your eyes are lost in the distance over the rugged coastline. After regaining our strength, we pass by the Devil's Cave and arrive at the beautiful natural beach of Playa Nogales. Although swimming is too dangerous due to strong underwater currents, we can cool off a bit at the shore, so don't forget your swimwear. The return trip is by taxi, thus also contributing to local development.

Tierra Viva Trails

At Ecofinca Tacande, we invite you to discover an authentic ecotourism experience in the heart of El Paso, where the agricultural landscape and volcanic terrain come together to tell the living history of La Palma. During this activity, you will walk through a real organic farm, learn about regenerative agriculture, soil care, sustainable water management, and animal welfare, and discover how these elements form an essential part of La Palma's cultural identity.

The visit begins with a warm and heartfelt welcome. Visitors are introduced to the concept of "living earth": fertile volcanic soils, natural processes, agricultural biodiversity, and the fundamental role that traditional agriculture plays in conserving the landscape. We then tour the orchards, compost areas, protea plantation, and regenerative management areas, where we explain how we produce sustainably and how these systems directly contribute to the balance of the World Biosphere Reserve.

The experience includes interaction with some of the farm's animals. The Majorera donkeys—all rescued—are the stars of the tour, along with birds, horses, and ducks. This interaction, highly valued by families and ecotourists, is always carried out with respect for animal welfare.

We finish with an agroecological tasting that varies according to the season: fresh fruit, homemade preserves, mojo sauces, traditional breads, Palmero cheeses, and local products. It is a time to savor the island from its roots, to talk, and to understand the importance of local consumption in keeping the agricultural culture of La Palma alive.

Ecofinca Tacande is a peaceful, intimate, and educational experience that combines nature, tradition, sustainability, and local cuisine.
