Geology hanging between skies: a route to walk on the secrets of the Pyrenees
On the southern slopes of the Peña Montañesa, majestic watchtower of Sobrarbe, two exceptional natural formations open like suspended balconies: the Faja del Toro and the Faixaneta. This route invites you to explore one of the most breathtaking and less frequented landscapes of the Central Pyrenees, from a geological, natural and respectful perspective.
- Learn to read the landscape with geological eyes.
These strips are not simple paths: they are natural platforms formed by the differential erosion of limestone strata, which tell us about a past in which tectonic collisions, ancient seas and millions of years of natural modeling sculpted the Peña Montañesa.
During the tour:
- We will discover how these hanging terraces were formed by the inclination and resistance of the rock layers.
- We will identify folds, fractures and strata games in the impressive vertical walls of the Peña.
- We will reflect on how geological time becomes visible at every step, in every cut of the mountain.
- A route for the conscious ecotourist
- Wildlife: if the silence accompanies, we will be able to observe the flight of the bearded vulture, the Griffon vulture and the agile step of the bighorn sheep.
- Adapted vegetation: we will learn how species such as the erizón, boxwood, junipers or black pines hanging in the impossible can withstand the altitude.
- Cultural landscape: from the route you can see villages such as Oncins, Torrelisa or El Pueyo de Araguás, where rural life still preserves its link with the mountain.
