If you're planning to visit us, you'll want to know
The Costa Quebrada Geopark encompasses eight municipalities in Cantabria, including the capital, Santander, which can be reached by road either via the A8 highway coming from the east (Vizcaya) or via the S20, which is the natural route when approaching from the west (Asturias). There is also the Seve Ballesteros-Santander International Airport, popularly known as Parayas Airport.
How to Get to the Costa Quebrada Geopark
From Santander, you can travel to the various towns in the Geopark by train, using the Feve lines, or by taking one of the services that depart from the bus station. In any case, the easiest option—and the one that offers the most flexibility—is a private car. Cantabria is a small region, and distances are generally short and the routes straightforward.
Geoparks are territories with clearly defined boundaries that are home to geological heritage of international significance, which serves as the basis for their sustainable socioeconomic development. They are recognized as UNESCO Global Geoparks under the International Geoscience and Geoparks Program.
Sustainable development based on heritage is driven in UNESCO Global Geoparks through a bottom-up approach that facilitates the participation of local stakeholders in decision-making. This enables educational activities on heritage and sustainability; local economic activities such as geotourism and guided tours linked to the area’s geology and local customs, traditions, and products; as well as conservation efforts that foster a sense of connection between the community and its heritage and involve it in its protection and promotion.
You can visit the Geopark on your own, completely independently, and access to any of its areas is completely free.
You can find more information on the website www.geoparquecostaquebrada.com, or you can contact us at educacion@geoparquecostaquebrada.com to ask any questions, find out about scheduled activities, or request any materials you may need.
Throughout the region, there are plenty of lodging options ranging from the most exclusive to the simplest; however, we recommend the accommodations affiliated with Soy Ecoturista, which you can find on this page, as they have been verified to meet certain sustainability requirements and are committed to the conservation of the Costa Quebrada Geopark and local development.
