Our ecotourism commitment:

At Casa Martín we are fully aware of the need to take care of the environment and respect our surroundings. Therefore, we adopt measures that help to reduce the impact of our activity, reducing the consumption of energy, water and other resources: - We raise awareness of the importance of the bee in nature through the pollination process, promoting its care and protection. - We approach the basic traditional techniques of this millenary profession - We are a family dedicated for many years to beekeeping. We elaborate, as our previous generations used to do.

The environment of the Cantabrian brown bear

A 5-day getaway designed to immerse yourself in the territory with the highest density of bears in the Iberian Peninsula, the southwest of Asturias.

It is a trip for lovers of interpreted hiking. A guide accompanies you throughout the trip, and is intended for people with a minimum of physical fitness. The main purpose of the trip is not the bear itself, but as a thread and excuse to know and reflect a geographical environment with a specific character, culture, geology, history and traditions. Therefore, we combine aspects of nature, culture and bear watching.

We have the best local guides and we stay in rural houses full of charm Rural Hotel in Xenestoso in Fuentes del Narcea and Palacio Flórez Estrada in Somiedo. Possibility of bear watching activity in Somiedo with Somiedo Experience.

DAY 1.
Pick up at arrival point of visitors (Oviedo, Asturias Airport, optional in other locations).

Transfer to accommodation in Genestoso, with bed and breakfast.

DAY 2.
Route to the Cabril mountain, in Xenestoso. With its 1920 meters, it is a natural border between the environment of the Park of Cangas de Narcea and Somiedo.

It is a natural balcony to get to know and recognize this emblematic spot in the southwest of Asturias. Depending on the development of the route, the activity could be extended/substituted by a visit to the surroundings of Cangas del Narcea, head town of this old mining region, as well as a cultural visit to the monastery of Corias.

DAY 3.
Natural Park of Cangas de Narcea. Route around the surroundings of the Laguna de Arbas, on the border of the park of Cangas de Narcea, Degaña and Ibias and the León region of Llaciana. This is a very important bear corridor. Observation of typical habitat, with scrubland, arandanales, as well as glacial lagoon.

Transfer and overnight in Pola de Somiedo, with overnight accommodation only.

DAY 4.
Bear watching in Somiedo. This activity depends on the season of the year, so in unsuitable season, it will be replaced by a route to some of the best preserved "brañas" of Somiedo, with explanation of the culture of the "brañas" and "teitos somedanos".

Overnight in Somiedo.

DAY 5.
Hiking route around the Saliencia Valley, in the surroundings of the Camín Real de la Mesa. Historical and cultural importance of this path, as well as geological observation and tour through places of observation of the glacial valley and samples of folding.

Return to the point of origin of the trip.
