Our ecotourism commitment

We are committed to the environment and work towards sustainable tourism.
That is why we are taking measures in this direction. More information

Our certificates:
Our ecotourism commitment:

- Support for Local and Sustainable Economy:
The purchase of local products and participation in activities that support Cantabrian artisans and producers is actively promoted.
This will not only contribute to the local economy, but will also help preserve traditional practices and ancestral knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
We encourage varied activities that suit different tastes and interests, thus contributing to economic progress.

- Conservation of the Natural Environment:
Companies are committed to respect and protect the natural environment during all activities, in order to preserve the natural beauty of Cantabria throughout the year.
The responsible use of natural resources will be promoted and measures will be established to minimize the alteration of the environment, thus guaranteeing a sustainable tourism experience in harmony with nature.

In outdoor activities we encourage our clients to leave no trace. This implies taking everything they bring with them to avoid negative impacts. We make use of marked trails or spaces, as much as possible, so as not to disturb the environment and negatively affect the conservation and experience of other visitors. We avoid damaging vegetation, eroding soil and disturbing sensitive habitats.

- Promotion of Local Products and De-seasonalization of Tourism:
Companies are committed to promoting and using local products in all activities of the experience, thus contributing to the local economy and encouraging the deseasonalization of tourism.
By offering an attractive cultural and natural experience throughout the year, dependence on the high season is reduced, benefiting both local residents and tourists.
- Local Community Support:
Companies will work closely with the local community to ensure that tourism activities equitably benefit all stakeholders and promote the deseasonalization of tourism. The hiring of local guides will be encouraged throughout the year, thus strengthening the local economy and promoting a more equitable distribution of the benefits of tourism in the region.

- Environmental and Cultural Awareness:
Both companies will make continuous efforts to educate and sensitize participants about the importance of environmental and cultural conservation in Cantabria.
We will provide information on the threats facing both the environment and local traditions, and highlight actions tourists can take to minimize their impact and contribute to sustainability throughout the year.

- Responsible use of energy and waste management:
From the management of Casa Rural Alvarado, a responsible use of energy will be promoted, transmitting a guide of good practices that will guide the guests to fulfill this objective and reduce the impact of the tourist activity on the environment.
Likewise, a rigorous waste management system is implemented both during the stay and throughout the experience, with the aim of reducing, reusing and recycling materials in all operations. The use of biodegradable products will be promoted and the use of single-use plastics will be minimized to reduce the environmental impact and maintain the natural beauty of Cantabria for future generations.

Cheeses, Landscapes and Rural Culture in the Collados del Asón Natural Park with accommodation.

An experience that links us to the culture, tradition and nature of this region, always in direct contact and respecting the local population. Includes accommodation in Alvarado rural house, an old house with defensive tower of the fifteenth century.

We will start with a visit to a family cheese factory where artisan cheeses are made from the milk of cows that graze in these high mountains. In the facilities of the cheese factory we will receive a didactic explanation of the elaboration and process of the artisan cheese with audiovisual projection included and to participate in a tasting of the cheeses elaborated with the raw milk. The owners will tell us about the characteristics of the three types of cheeses they make: pressed, soft paste and requesó n, while we pair them with different wines.

After the visit, lunch at the facilities of the cheese factory in order to taste a typical dish of Cantabria, the cocido montañeacute;s.

After lunch, guided tour of the most emblematic viewpoints of the Natural Park of the Collados del Asón: viewpoint of Aja, viewpoint of the Rio Gándara and viewpoint of the source of the river Asóo Asón.

An interpretation of the landscape features derived from the glacial action during the Quaternary Era, the fluvial dynamics and the karstic processes that developed on the calcareous materials. At the same time we discover the uses and rural culture associated with this spectacular landscape.
