We are committed to the environment and work towards sustainable tourism.
That is why we are taking measures in this direction. More information
At Ecolagar O Barqueiro, we are committed to biodiversity conservation and local development in Pantón, in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra. Our project began with the restoration of the old house, vineyard, and wine press at O Barqueiro, and combines lodging, wine tourism, and respect for the exceptional natural surroundings along the banks of the Miño River.
1. Efficiency and Self-Sufficiency
We strive to be virtually self-sufficient through the use of renewable energy and the automation and control of our systems, which allow us to reduce energy consumption by 30% and water consumption by 20%.
In addition, we have our own spring water and use rainwater for irrigation, reinforcing responsible resource management in a delicate rural environment.
2. Conservation of the vineyard landscape
We maintain the vineyards in our surroundings to help preserve the landscape and the unique ecosystem of the Ribeira Sacra.
We are in the process of implementing organic viticulture systems to produce our own wine, prioritizing quality over quantity and fostering a more respectful relationship with the land.
3. Reduced impact in daily operations
At the complex, we use disposable cutlery, cups, and glasses made from PLA bioplastic, as well as plates and tableware made from sugarcane bagasse, reducing the impact of single-use materials.
We also manage hazardous waste through the Pantón Municipality Recycling Center and offer products in our social space that are primarily organic or eco-friendly.
4. Local development and regional experiences
We recommend local restaurants in the area, local cheese shops, and informational materials to help our guests better explore the Ribeira Sacra, such as comprehensive guides and hiking maps.
In addition, we participate in roundtables, conferences, and forums organized by the Ribeira Sacra Tourism Consortium, as well as in training sessions related to the destination, thereby strengthening the local tourism sector and professional development.
