Ecotourist Commitment

Campana de Oropesa is a historic region in the northwest corner of the province of Toledo that stands out for the good state of conservation of its dehesas and steppe bird communities. More than 60% of its area belongs to the Natura 2000 Network. Its two main protected natural areas are the ZEPA Valle del Tiétar and reservoirs of Rosarito and Navalcán, and the ZEC-ZEPA Plains of Oropesa, Lagartera and Calera y Chozas. Both areas have implemented the System for the recognition of the sustainability of nature tourism in Red Natura, with the aim of promoting ecotourism in this territory. The Local Action Group Asociación para el desarrollo de la Campana de Oropesa (ADECOR) has joined the Asociación Ecoturismo en España and is implementing a participatory rural development strategy with the main economic sectors and local stakeholders. The region is implementing a tourism sustainability plan that will create new experiences in hiking, bicycle tourism, cultural tourism, handicrafts and ecotourism.

An ecological corridor between the Tagus and Tietar rivers

Campana de Oropesa

Campana de Oropesa, an ecological corridor between the Tajo and Tiétar rivers.

Halfway between the Sierra de Gredos and the Tajo valley, we find a hidden treasure in the northwest corner of the province of Toledo, where anthropic activities have shaped the landscape for centuries. With a strong livestock tradition, Campana de Oropesa treasures magnificent pastures of holm oaks and cork oaks in an excellent state of conservation. Proof of this is the great diversity of birds of prey (black and red kite, common kite, common kite, golden eagle, short-toed eagle, goshawk, sparrowhawk, hen harrier and Montagu's harrier, etc.), including some species of birds of prey.), including some of the most emblematic and endangered bird species of the Iberian Peninsula (Iberian imperial eagle, black vulture, Bonelli's eagle and black stork). Its meadows and plains continue through the Campo Arañuelo in Extremadura until reaching Monfragüe National Park.
