Geotourism for sustainability

Ecotourist Commitment

This orographic complex has been declared a Geopark when it became part, since September 2011, of the European and Global Geoparks Networks of UNESCO. Since November 2015 it has also been considered a UNESCO WORLD GEOPARK.

The destination has been part of Soy Ecoturista, the Ecotourism product club in Spain, since 2013. It thus became one of the first certified destinations, as well as its companies, meeting a series of sustainability requirements and commitment to nature conservation and local development.

Geoparks are natural areas that preserve a unique geological heritage, a typical modeling of the landscape and places where rocks, minerals or fossils can explain to visitors, nature lovers but not necessarily familiar with geology, the history of the Earth in that place. In addition, geoparks promote research, conservation, education and social and economic development, especially by promoting geotourism.

In this sense, the Geopark works in close collaboration with Geovilluercas, the association of tourism companies and producers of the territory.

The Geopark of Extremadura

Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark

It is easy to succumb to the temptation to take pictures continuously in the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark. Breathtaking panoramas, breathtaking landscapes, monuments that are World Heritage Sites, chromatic forests in every season and irresistible gastronomy for any foodie.

Each trip to the Geopark ends with an album that hides much more than the beauty of the images and the memory of the moment. A collection of snapshots with two stories: the one of the trip itself and the one that tells you about our destination.
